Inkjet printing first appeared as a concept around the 1950’s. Soon it emerged as a favored way of recreating digital images. It works by propelling ink droplets on the desired surface without making any direct contact. Inkjet printing advanced rather quickly. Nowadays its able to provide fine prints at very high speeds and in a wide format. Inkjet printing can be applied on signs, textiles, ceramics. It is also used in some more complex tasks, like 3D printing that is used in biomedicine. It is preferred because its quieter, smoother and prints in a more cost effective way.
Back in 1951 Siemens first patented the inkjet device that was a predecessor of the inkjet printers. About 20 years later, in the early 70’s, Canon developed the continuous inkjet technology. During that time it was mainly applied in industries for product labeling and marking. In 1977 Siemens released the PT-80 printer for continuous print. This event marked the birth of the drop-on-demand technology. In modern days manufacturers have developed hybrid printers that combine both inkjet and offset printing.
In the continuous inkjet technology there is a special generator for ink drops that vibrates and produces ultrasonic waves. These waves break the ink into droplets at required intervals. It prints fast, dries fast and the nozzles are safe for clogging. A downside to it is the less-precise manner of printing.
The drop-on-demand technology embraces 3 different types of printing – thermal (bubble) inkjet, piezoelectric inkjet and pressure valve inkjet. The main difference between the 3 is in the way they disperse the ink. While thermal and piezoelectric inkjet have wide industrial and consumer application, pressure valve inkjets are used only for industrial purposes.

Eco solvent printing has 1 big advantage compared to normal printing and that is the quality of the print. This printing technique uses an extra shield of lamination which provides photo quality output and longer life span. It is a bio degradable ink print technology that is often used for:

Because of the fast evolution of the inkjet printing market, printers are slowly moving away from traditional electrophotographic and even offset technology. Improved printheads and innovative inks that stick to gloss coated paper without pretreatment help inkjet printers receive a wide application for commercial purposes like magazines and catalogues. Another booming trend seems to be the rapid expansion of sheetfed inkjet. It is expected to cover more than half the inkjet installs by 2019.
Inkjet printing is one of those technologies that have the power to shape the future noInkjet printing. It will affect not only for the printing industry, but for other industries as well. Should manufacturers decide to apply its full power and integrate them with existing automation, they can achieve massive system optimization.
